Spartaka Wounded Warrior 5k- 3/24
Time 40:39
Good Lord it seems like forever ago. This was my first race and was a total leap of faith. It was down at the Oceanfront and was awesome. The set up was great as were all workers and volunteers. I was the fat guy in the back with the strollers and wearing my new fuelbelt (yes a fuelbelt for a 5k). Biggest achievement for this race happened the Friday before. Weighed in with Shannon and was under 300 pounds, that was 30 lost from Mid January and was quite proud of that. Race notes stated I went out too fast the first mile and sucked at the end by failing to keep my intervals.
Oceanfront Jaycees 5k- 5/24
Time 35:47
Looking over the notes and have to laugh. Complained about it being hot and it was only 78 degrees. Looking forward to running with temps like that this fall. My goal time here was 35 minutes and I missed it. Was not happy as this was just a race I threw in to check my progress. Said that I went out to fast first mile and sucked the rest of the race. That is still a problem with me, love to be quick out of the gates and suffer in the end. The drink stop was on the wrong side of the race and caused issues, plus there was no place for your cups as you left the area. Will not do this race again.
CHKD 8K Run/Walk- 6/16
Time57:29
Upped the distance here. It was time and the fact it was for CHDK was even better. Trained hard for this one. Goal was to complete in Under 60 minutes and I was stoked that I achieved that. This was about the time I was having my bubble gut issues and didn't help that I was still using Gu at that time. It hurts the tummy too! Seems I am consistent and starting pace was way too fast. Lost focus around mile 3.5 and let my pace slip. Then started my final kick way too late. This race was set up awesome but the course was a little ugly since it was downtown Norfolk and some roads needed some maintenance. The rest of the race was spot on and this will be one that I will do again. Sidenote - I was really proud of myself at this time but was horrified when I saw the race photos. I felt so good but still looked like a fat man still trying to run. My action shot was horrible and was quite pissed about this.
